This week ahead, we are living in-between eclipses. Eclipses are powerful lunations that include an interruption of light and occur on the nodal axis. Interruption of light refers to the eclipse itself, where the Moon moves in front of the Sun, blocking his light to Earth (solar eclipse) or where the Earth blocks the light of the Sun from reflecting off of the Moon (lunar eclipse, giving the red blood moon appearance). In astrology, the Sun and Moon are referred to as the luminaries, the celestial bodies that give light to our lives; the Sun representing our identity, vital force, the light we bring to the world, and the Moon representing our emotions, physical body, and psyche. When there is an eclipse, the usual light from these planets breaks from the usual for a moment. Eclipses occur on the nodal axis, in the signs of the north and south node, points that mark the direction of fate. The north node adds gravity and emphasis to the sign it inhabits; the south node sits directly opposite, bringing decrease and vacancy to the sign it inhabits like a wrong way road sign. Eclipse season, therefore, is our bi-annual time of destined shifts. They can feel unexpected, like a break from the norm (interrupted light), or like the parameters of our lives are suddenly different. Coming down from the Virgo eclipse last Friday, this week we will continue to see shifts associated with it while rapidly moving towards the Aries eclipse on March 29 and Neptune’s ingress into Aries. I pulled the Eight of Wands this morning, a card signifying quick decisions and many things coming at once, which represents this energy well. I imagine, during eclipse windows, that everyone in the world all at once spins their personal Wheel of Fortune and then we wait to see where it lands and how our destinies intersect. Eclipses are not to be controlled nor avoided; there is little advice to be given except for stay present and surrender to the fates.
On Monday, the moon in Libra is separating from a square with Mars, then ingressing into Scorpio. This brings the Moon and Mars into a watery, moody mutual reception that might help slightly lift energy and motivation after the eclipse hangover weekend. This continues into Tuesday, when there is a Sun-North Node conjunction. This occurs roughly annually and brings attention to the North Node, helping us notice where the gravity in our internal and external lives currently lies and where the eclipse tide is pulling us.
Wednesday and Thursday (timezone dependent, but influential both days regardless) there is a Neptune cazimi in Pisces. This is the last Piscean Neptune cazimi of our lifetimes, a moment when Neptune meets the Sun exactly after spending all month at the anaretic degree of Pisces. Neptune represents many things, imagination and delusion, lies and tricks, misunderstandings, altered states of mind, visions of the future; she will cross Venus and Mercury again near the end of this month, right as she enters Aries. This cazimi can be a moment of strength and clarity, reducing the shadows brought by Neptune’s time near the North Node and the Mercury and Venus retrogrades, a moment of creative insight or strong intuition, even a reflection on what Neptune has brought to the Pisces house in your chart since 2011. This cazimi happens under a Sagittarius moon, making these very Jupiterian days good for spiritual reflection.
On Friday, the Sun enters Aries and spring begins. The equinox will bring perfectly balanced hours of sunlight and darkness, and hopefully a renewed sense of vitality as the Sun climbs out of Pisces and into his exaltation home sign. This is our astrological new year, a transition that Neptune, Mercury and Venus (and later Saturn) are emphasizing with their own transits between the undefinable realm of Pisces and Aries energy of pure presence.
On Sunday, there is a Venus cazimi, marking the midpoint of this Venus retrograde. This occurs at 2 degrees of Aries. Topics that have been in question since the beginning of Venus retrograde, potentially finances, values and priorities, aesthetic issues, how you relate to other people, certain issues in certain relationships, may see new light and clarity around Sunday and moving forward. The rest of Venus’ retrograde period is then an ideal time to adjust as needed. That takes us right up to the next week that contains the wrap up of this eclipse season and Neptune’s Aries ingress. Wishing you a magical eclipse season and Solstice!
