Venus Retrograde and Appearances
short look at Venus retrograde periods personal impact, aside from the super active astrology of this current one!
Venus is currently retrograde, beginning on March 2 2025 at 10 degrees of Aries and travelling back to 24 degrees of Pisces. She will station direct on April 13, 2025.
I find Venus retrogrades to be an ideal time to re-evaluate aesthetics and the role they play in your life. Venus rules beauty and appearance, as well as values and ideals, money and relationships; these topics are inextricable. The way we decorate our homes, curate our own appearances, and choose our aspirational beauty ideals reflects how we see ourselves, what we value in ourselves, how we hope others will perceive us. Every aesthetic choice can show us something about ourselves. The narratives and personalities we create for the world to see are also a part of our Venus expressions; we write stories about our personas, and present them for the consumption of others, or our own selves. Focusing on this aspect is my favorite way to lean into a Venus Retrograde time period; locating the intention behind self curation, creatively working to land somewhere that suits me better.
Venus in Pisces is dreamy and idealistic, exalted; relationships and values thrive here, with access to limitless possibilities. A mutable water sign, ruled by Jupiter, Pisces can adapt to provide whatever emotion a relationship needs to grow and thrive. This energy is intuitive, magical, and harmonious. At its worst, it is dishonest, temporary, breeding grounds for projection and misconception.
Meanwhile, Venus in Aries is in her detriment; rash and independent, lacking patience and consideration for others. Venus in Aries wants to assert, at times impose, a vision of self and worldly ideals. While more authentic and energetic, this can be short sighted and non-constructive to connection with others; self assertion within a relationship is usually positive, but sometimes unnecessary and divisive if no challenge was present.
This retrograde between the two is an opportunity to find a balance between these extremes, locating where one may have gone too far one way or the other. A self focused and unyielding approach to relationships is antithetical to connection; emphasis should be put on what can be authentically created together, instead of solely how to declare and express yourself to others. Pisces easily taps into co-creation, changeable, open minded, able to build beautiful and intimate relationships; but if you misrepresent or fail to recognize your needs and desires, the relationship will be built on sand.
Back to appearances; the way we present ourselves, and stories we tell about ourselves, fall on this spectrum. Do you present yourself in a way that aligns authentically with who you are? I think this takes practice, intention, and time. If you don’t, what are you aligning your self presentation with and why? Do your beauty ideals serve connection with a certain group of people, separation from another, total neutrality? What is the story about yourself that you present within your relationships? Do you feel seen by yourself; do you allow others to build relationships with the authentic you? Do some people in your life misperceive you, and do you correct them or adapt a bit to their misconceptions? Reflect without judgement, and use the retrograde period to adjust if you so wish.
