Pluto in Aquarius
a little on what it means for everyone and how to find what it means for you
Today, Pluto completes its final ingress into Aquarius, a transition it has been slowly completing all year. Now, Pluto will not enter Capricorn again for the rest of our lifetimes, and will be in Aquarius until 2043. Aquarius contrasts Capricorn’s concrete and authoritarian approach to power; Aquarius is a fixed (unmoving), universal (humanitarian, collectivist), air (intellectual, communicative) sign. Pluto in Aquarius is about the power of information and ideas, how knowledge is spread, how truth is found; with AI and surveillance technology increasing, it is easy to imagine what this transit will bring up. How is truth defined; how do we discern reality from propaganda from AI-generated. What power does it give to something, when we all believe in it; what power do we give to people or technologies, when they are responsible for deciding what is true. What power is there in being all knowing and omnipresent, what is there that cannot be known or taken.
Our traditional structures (Capricorn) are losing their influence as Pluto completes its time in this sign, and long standing powers rarely release their power gracefully. We can clearly see that the coming decades will be formative for our world. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius we saw (French and American) revolutions, rebellions against economic inequalities and unjust powers. Expect the same focus on rebelling against inequity, and pressure, opportunities for the majority to reclaim power over the direction of the world.
Pluto transits are incredibly impactful in our personal lives as well. As a Capricorn moon and rising with a Cancer stellium, Pluto in Capricorn was revolutionary for me five times over. Pluto transits can be brutal when they aspect natal charts, creating the ashes that we must rise from. In rebuilding what is left destroyed, there is opportunity to access the kind of strength and power that can only be created under pressure, like diamonds. What we create with Pluto is made through trials (literally hell and back, as Pluto is associated with Hades), and truly powerful in an irrevocable way because it represents inner power, what we can make from nothing. Looking ahead to Pluto in Aquarius, here is a mini guide to finding what Pluto will transform in your life in the coming decades.
First, find the house that Aquarius rules in your chart. There are abundant online resources to understand the significations of each house, here are some of the keywords I use:
1st House: Self, Body, Perspective, Where you meet the world, Where the world meets you, Identity.
2nd House: Personal resources, property, physical reality, physical experience, what is available to you, property.
3rd House: Thoughts, the active mind, siblings, writing, neighborhood, local environment, who surrounds you, acquaintances, ideas, how you filter information you receive, communication, easy travel.
4th House: Home, where you live, childhood, family dynamics, where you come from, what holds you up, father.
5th House: Joy, pleasure, creation, children, artistic expression, self expression, sex, fun.
6th House: Health, obligation, slavery, daily routines and daily life, daily work, lack of choice, physical restrictions.
7th House: Relationships, partnerships, marriage, legal contracts, business partners, opponents, one-to-one dynamics, spouse.
8th House: Inheritance, where other people support you, intimate exchange, debt, trauma, what is owed to you, what is given to you to transform, binding circumstances, death, loss.
9th House: God, spirituality, higher education, far travel, philosophy, to see the world, to understand the world, far from where you come from.
10th House: Aspirational self, the image you project, career goals, self realization, purpose, mother.
11th House: Relationship with society; your place, how you see your society, how your society sees you; friendships, networks, audience, the greater population that you live amongst, group you participate in.
12th House: Isolation, psyche, incarceration, inner world, hidden enemies, self undoing, traps.
The house that Aquarius lives in will represent an area of life that you can expect to transform throughout this transit. Next, I recommend looking for any planets that you have in Aquarius. These will be profoundly impacted; think about what the planet means in your chart. Consider the houses that this planet rules as well; I use traditional rulerships:
Sun- Leo
Moon-Cancer
Mercury- Gemini and Virgo
Venus- Taurus and Libra
Mars- Aries and Scorpio
Jupiter- Sagittarius and Pisces
Saturn- Capricorn and Aquarius
For example, if you have Venus in Aquarius, look at your Taurus and Libra houses. Expect transformation in these areas of life, especially as Pluto nears the degree of the ruling planet. Pluto conjunctions (what will occur to any planets in Aquarius) can be initially destructive for some and intense but positive for others; there will be value in creating yourself anew in the areas of life indicated.
Follow the same process for planets in Leo, Scorpio and Taurus; these planets and houses will experience opposition or square aspects from Pluto during its Aquarius transit. This brings pressure, and events in your life will be pushing these planets and houses towards change. Pluto transits are once in a lifetime opportunities; we do not live to see Pluto make its way through each sign of the zodiac. When Pluto aspects your chart, there is a sole chance to completely change and restructure that part of your life. Remember that external power and influence comes and goes, internal power can never be taken from you.
