One thing that pop astrology gets wrong is this idea that the planetary transits are propelling us forward on a journey to healing and enlightenment. “On the full moon you will release all your limiting beliefs”; “Pluto leaving Capricorn will bring the fall of all illegitimate authority structures”. Every transit is framed as a level up, a gift from the universe that we innately deserve and should anticipate.
As the tarot has a card to represent all facets of the human experience, all things under the Sun are represented in astrology, and under the rulership of a certain planet. While all things under the sun are a part of our collective story, there are many injustices and utter tragedies in the world and in our individual lives.
These too are cosmically represented, and do not always move us towards our highest good; they do not force our spiritual evolution. For example, usually, when Mars is present, conflict is likely; conflict can be profoundly healing, groundbreaking, and shift us forward in our relationships. Conflict can also be abusive, traumatic, driving opposing sides towards mutual destruction, leaving little of value in its wake. While the rest of the charts can show us context and potential, the outcome is up to free will.
There lies the danger of believing that the planets can truly move us; instead, they reflect us. We must move ourselves. Astrology is incredibly powerful and can bring understanding, provide insight, predict timing, and identify opportunities. But nothing is promised, and if you stay still while the planets move, nothing changes. The energy presents and you will probably feel it, but only the actions you take can bring the possibilities into reality.
Be wary of any content or advice that promotes complacency or hopelessness. We are co-creators of our own and shared experience, of our world; take your role seriously. As Pluto moves into Aquarius, finishing the Pluto return of the United States, be a participant in the changes.
