Astrology Forecast May 5th-May 18th
Fixed signs in the spotlight and a Scorpio Full Moon
Happy mid-Taurus season, I hope everyone is enjoying the springtime; these next two weeks are the perfect time to sink into Taurean, hedonistic, playful energy. The fixed energy is heavy and dominant, with the Sun, Uranus and soon Mercury in Taurus, Mars in Leo, a Scorpio full moon approaching, Pluto of course in Aquarius and Lilith newly in Scorpio. Fixed energy brings a slower quality of time, thicker air that does not change easy, weighty moments that remind us to experience them and be where we are. It is lovely, but with Uranus, Mars, and Pluto in the fixed skies, it’s not exactly peaceful.
Change is still brewing; soon, Saturn will enter Aries, Jupiter will enter Cancer, and then Uranus will enter Gemini, bringing us a summer full of activity, fresh energy, and an overall sneak peek of 2026. The time we are in now is electric with possibilities and promises of what is to come, like we’re inching up to the top of the rollercoaster; taking it all in, feeling the build up, about to go. Notice how you are reacting to glimpses of change to come; where are you resistant, where are you craving it?
Mars, Venus, and the Sun are in close communication these days (inhabiting one anothers’ signs); creating a time period that is somewhat prone to indulgence, selfishness, and visionary moments. The network these planets are forming is ideal for creative and sensory exploration, trying new things, following your artistic impulses. Mars in Leo brings the most discordant energy to the table, and there is potential for impotence and exaggerated ego in disagreements. If disharmony arises, interrogate your motives (and others).
Below is my forecast for the coming two weeks, with a few notable transits and their dates.
Mars Retrograde Shadow Period is Over
Mars made his final opposition to Pluto last week, and about two days ago (Friday May 2nd) he surpassed 6°10’ Leo, at last passing his retrograde station point where he left off on December 7th, 2024. This should feel like a sigh of relief; Mars’ retrograde cycle and links with Pluto have been some of the rockiest, nastiest astro-weather in the forecast during these past months. Today, the moon is in Leo, activating Pluto and the Sun, bringing our attention to last week's final Mars-Pluto opposition and Taurus New Moon. By Wednesday, this energy will be behind us. Mars will remain in Leo until June, and we are now starting to experience this energy without the weight of Pluto’s opposition.
Where is Mercury
Mercury is making an interesting journey these two weeks. Into Taurus, yes, but first they will conjoin Chiron in Aries (Wednesday, May 7th). Chiron in Aries has been loud, activated by many of the 2024 eclipses as well as April’s Aries solar eclipse. Mercury’s transit might bring conversation to a sensitive topic that’s been lingering, or you may come across a new perspective, song, piece of writing, etc that resonates with the theme. Chiron in Aries represents wounds that come from neglecting the self/being neglected, or centering the self to the point of causing unjust harm/taking what is not yours.
Mercury enters Taurus on Sunday May 10th. This will allow our ideas and conversations to settle a bit; if logistical things have been up in the air for a while, we may see the cards “begin to fall”. This is because Taurus is where the sparks of Aries go to take material shape; moreso, Mercury is ruling Jupiter in Gemini. Jupiter in Gemini answering to Mercury in Aries creates an environment that is very changeable, where ideas come and go quickly, difficult to grasp. I’m personally looking forward to this; another planet pulling away from the Pisces-Aries liminal space where we’ve spent the last few months means that some of what we brought with us out of the Pisces void will begin to take form.
Soon after entering Taurus, Mercury opposes Lilith (Wednesday May 14th). Due to the fixed nature of the current skies, Lilith’s entry into Scorpio has been noticeable, and this Mercury transit will amplify that. There may come a sensation of being trapped, unheard, or in a suppressive environment. It is worth taking stock of where Scorpio is in your chart, and seeing if you have felt rebellious in regard to your Scorpio house topics since Lilith entered Scorpio(late March); the Mercury opposition could bring some awareness to the overall shift. The energy can bring irritability, but in general Lilith brings a self protective and liberatory instinct that should not be ignored.
Scorpio Full Moon
The Scorpio full moon on Monday May 12th is about power, the way the Taurus-Scorpio axis always is. Mars and Pluto are of course also involved, loosely squaring the full moon in a loose opposition to one another, creating a grand cross". The orb (how far the planets are from exactly aspecting each other) is fairly big (thankfully), so the tension is subtle. A grand cross is kind of like a four-way standoff; the Taurus Sun (with Uranus and Mercury) finds power in possession, money, luxury, and loyalty; Leo Mars is driven to claim the power as his own; a Scorpio moon (with Lilith) finds power in emotion, resilience, and the truth; Pluto in Aquarius finds power in getting ahead of the rest. All of these approaches may be at play, in the world of course, as well as in our lives and psyches. The full moon is a time to locate where you draw personal power, and what holds power over you. Mars and the Moon may be the “strongest” planets in this grand cross, suggesting that we focus on building our own sense of resilience; there is a degree of power you can give to or withhold from yourself, and ultimately self-knowledge and truth are in your control while possessions or others’ loyalties may not be. Mercury will be forming a close square to Pluto as well, a reminder of how little control we really have.
Sun Conjoins Uranus
This will be our last Sun-Uranus conjunction in Taurus, occurring on Sunday May 18th. I recommend marking this day to reflect on Uranus’ transit of Taurus; find Taurus in your chart, and think about what has shaken up in that area of your life since May of 2018. You might find that your internal mechanisms have been revolutionized, and nothing is as it was. Take stock of what has changed, and notice if there are any finishing touches you want to add to the evolution. Uranus will enter Gemini in July, briefly retrograde back into Taurus, and then enter Gemini again finally in early April 2026. So you can also look at your Gemini house and think about what shifts you want to see as Uranus passes through.
The transit itself might bring the unexpected; stay open minded and look for new approaches that might reveal themselves. Technology and logistics can be funky during Uranian transits. If something has felt stuck for a while, this is a good time to re-approach it. Alternatively, find something new to enjoy, or a new way to enjoy something you already do often; try a new hobby, redesign your space, take a new route to work.
Venus Leaves Retrograde Shadow
On May 17th, Venus will leave her retrograde shadow period, fully wrapping up her Pisces-Aries retrograde transit and moving forward throughout the zodiac. Loose ends of retrograde stories will get tied up or forgotten, and we are officially done with the personal planet retrograde period that kicked off this year.
